The eclectic city of Venice is filled with wall murals and street art and even this office building takes on a more creative façade, with vibrant blue and yellow colors that make a bold statement.

This image was taken a block from the boardwalk in downtown Venice Beach, looking onto the backside of the blue and yellow exterior of the office building of 100 Market St. To get this perspective, you'll need to approach the building from the backside on Park Row. Input the address (100 Market St) into your GPS and then turn right on Park Row after arriving at the building. Reference the GPS coordinates and they'll lead you to the exact spot where I stood to get this perspective.

Tips

When to go

Best season

All months

Best time

Mid-day
Southern California is rarely affected by changing seasons, which will allow you to photograph the blue and yellow backside of 100 Market St during any month.
Midday, the sun will be high in the sky and create strong shadows against the building.

Field tips

A wide-angle lens (28mm) will allow you to capture the entire scene in your frame. If your lens is too narrow, you won't be able to incorporate the top of the building, which is an important aspect of the composition.
To create a sense of symmetry, try aligning yourself with light on the wall ahead.
There are a few perspectives you can play around with here. Walk around the building and see what other compositions you can capture.

Do nearby

You're in the heart of Venice, so take your time exploring the neighborhood. Don't forget to take a picture of the classic "Venice" sign that's a quick walk away over on Pacific Ave and then walk down to the beach to see the waterfront boardwalk.
If you're looking for some California-fare, I highly recommend Great White. They serve everything from breakfast burritos and avocado toast to burgers and kale salad.
