Slacker Hill view of Golden Gate Bridge

This image was taken on top of Slacker Hill, looking onto Battery Spencer and the Golden Gate Bridge. To get to this spot, you'll need to park near the roundabout at the Coastal Trail Parking and Restroom (37.833879, -122.494485). From there, there's a Coastal Trail at the back of the parking lot that'll take you all the way up to Slacker Hill. As you're hiking, reference the GPS coordinates and you'll arrive at the same location where I took my photo. Note: Make sure to keep right at any point the trail gives you an option.

August is usually the best month for low fog beneath Slacker Hill, but it can definitely carry throughout all of the summer months. Check the weather before venturing out if you want to have similar foggy conditions.

Low fog is much more common during sunrise. Additionally, you'll be photographing into the light versus having the sun come into your frame from the side.

Using a lens that's too wide or too narrow could distort your image. I recommend using a mid-range lens for this location. For reference, I used a 55mm focal length.

If you're shooting a long exposure, bring a sturdy tripod as it's often windy up there.

A neutral density (ND) filter is essential to get those smooth fog shots after the sun comes up. A 2-5 stop works great here.

Having a model on the path or way down below is a cool way to give the scene more scale. You can have a friend hike below you or you can wait until another hiker passes by your frame.

This area is a prime spot for hikers! Whether it's Engagement Hill or SCA Trail, there are multiple options to choose from for those who like to hike.
